With this typeface I think I’ve become more balanced in uniting the spontaneity of post-war ad lettering with the current trends in illustration and design. I also toyed with ligatures containing apostrophes, something I’ve never seen before. Swashes, alternates, ligatures - too many of them, all trying to make the interplay between the tool’s two extreme widths remain faithful to hand movement subtleties. The process wasn’t that different from my work with Feel Script’s shot at computerized commercial lettering, though here we have a more casual contrast, rather than the high seriousness of the Copperplate script. In this case, I try to articulate brush lettering, try to get the computer to emulate continuous painting. Hipster Script is another of my habitual attempts at trying to reduce the divide between manual and digital. ![]()

![]() Professor Pac-Man was a quiz game depicting Pac-Man in a mortar board and glasses. The success of Pac-Man inspired US distributor Bally Midway to create a series of mostly identical sequels: Ms Pac-Man, Pac-Man Plus, Jr Pac-Man, Baby Pac-Man (which added a mini pinball table under the monitor) and Professor Pac-Man.Ģ6. It is impossible to score higher than that because of a bug in the game that turns the screen to gibberish on the 256th screen.Ģ5. The record was equalled by David Race in 2012.Ģ4. In 1999, Billy Mitchell became the first person to obtain a perfect Pac-Man score of 3,333,360, eating every dot, power pill, ghost and bonus on every level without losing a single life. But let’s just forget about that, shall we?Ģ3. Pac-Man was a major element in the appalling Adam Sandler comedy Pixels, with Toru Iwatani getting a cameo as an arcade repairman. The scene is effectively a how-to guide and an advert for Pac-Man rolled into one.Ģ2. In a 1982 episode of the sitcom Taxi, Louie (Danny DeVito) installs a Pac-Man cabinet in the garage and Jim (Christopher Lloyd) becomes addicted to the game. The movie also featured preview footage of Super Pac-Man, Namco’s official sequel to the original game.Ģ1. It was later heavily featured in the movie Joysticks, which belonged to the 1980s teen sex comedy genre popularised by Porky’s. In 1981, Japanese manufacturer Shoei released a terrible “erotic” version of Pac-Man called Streaking. The game gave us this Marcus Brigstocke joke: “If Pac-Man had affected us as kids, we’d all be running around in dark rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive electronic music.”ġ9. Notable examples include Jonzun Crew’s Pack Jam and Newcleus’s Jam on Revenge (The Wikki-Wikki Song).ġ8. The game’s distinctive electronic music and sound effects were also an inspiration to early hip-hop pioneers. An album of video-game-inspired songs followed. The tribute song Pac-Man Fever by artists Jerry Buckner and Gary Garcia reached number nine in the US charts in March 1982. This advert for the device is quite a rush.ġ6. Japanese toy manufacturer Tomy made a famously beautiful, handheld Pac-Man game in the shape of an enormous yellow blob with an LCD display. Although it sold 7m copies, the game was so wretched it has been widely blamed for the 1983 video game crash, alongside the similarly poor title, ET.ġ5. With its simplified maze and blocky visuals, the Atari 2600 version of Pac-Man is widely considered one of the worst arcade-to-home console conversions of all time. A strategy guide to the game, Mastering Pac-Man by professional blackjack player Ken Uston, sold more than 1m copies.ġ4. Inspired by pizza … Toru Iwatani, creator of Pac-Man. Pac-Man became gaming’s first marketable mascot, with licensed merchandise including lunchboxes, joke books, T-shirts, board games, pyjamas and, for the romantic gamer, Valentine cards. Within a year of Pac-Man’s launch, 100,000 units had been sold and 250m games were being played every week. Martin Amis was a fan of the game and in his 1982 book Invasion of the Space Invaders claimed to have spent weeks in “a Pac-Man-fed stupor unwilling and unable to think about anything else”.ġ2. This was one of the first examples of a non-interactive video game “cutscene”.ġ1. The game features short animated sequences between levels, showing Pac-Man being chased by the ghosts. It was originally called Puck Man, but the US distributor Midway was worried that the word Puck could easily be modified by mischievous vandals into something ruder. The mere threat of being surfed by a Frenzyer can have a huge impact on the positioning of our opponent, who must constantly be on the lookout for any way in which their players might find themselves within a square or two of the pitch edge. This is one of the most effective methods of player removal in the game. One of the most popular applications of Frenzy is to ‘surf’, or Push opponents off the pitch edge and into the crowd. In this example, a Werewolf Blitz on the Skaven might seem tempting, but if we find pushes on the first block, then any pushback or pow on the second block will take us into base to base contact with at least one of the Chaos big guys, leaving us having to dodge away or face a big hit in return. In this example, even with so many bodies around and most players seemingly marked, the single unmarked marauder in the centre means that if the Werewolf takes the 2D block on the Skaven, the follow-up block will be -2D.Ī Frenzy block on the Skaven could lead into big trouble Let’s look at a couple of ways things can go wrong:Ī single untagged player can spell disaster with Frenzy For example, our second Block might lead us into base-to-base contact with an opponent we really do not want to be basing, or it might lead us to be surrounded by opponents, or left on the edge of the pitch, etc.Īmongst higher-level players, awareness of the pitfalls of Frenzy is such that players will often attempt to create positions in which opposing Frenzyers unwittingly lead themselves into these kind of situations. There are other positional pitfalls that can arise. When we use Frenzy in any more crowded area of the pitch the calculation of the position and block dice can become considerably more complex, and the potential to follow-up into a 1D or -2D block can increase enormously. In this example, our assist has been positioned so that in the event of a push on our first 2D, we will still get 2D on the second block.Īs we have seen above, if we do not naturally outstrength our opponent, positioning of our assists is vital to ensure our follow-up block continues to be a 2D. Our Troll Slayer has a 2D block thanks to an assist, but if we only get pushes on the first block we will push the Orc away from our assist, and our follow-up block will result in a 1D. If our Frenzy user is a big guy like a Minotaur or Rat Ogre, or a ST4 type like a Ulfwerener or Khorne Bloodseeker, then that 2D block will typically be easy to come by, but if we are using a ST3 (or lower!) player, then we must be careful how we position our assists to ensure they still aid us on any potential second block. ![]() Our base use case with Frenzy is to find a lone opponent, ensure we have a 2D block, and then enjoy hitting them once or twice and hopefully get a knockdown. We do continue to get the second Block against Stand Firm players who elected not to be pushed back.If our opponent has Foul Appearance, we must roll it again before making our second block. If our opponent uses Fend, we cannot follow-up and thus do not get the second block. We must follow-up and we must block again, and these are the conditions that create many of the nuances of effective Frenzy use. ![]() The most important aspect of this skill in its general application is the ‘must’. ![]() The BasicsĮvery time a player with Frenzy performs a block and their target is pushed back, the Frenzy player must follow-up, and if the target is still standing they must block them again. It has great potential to cause damage, create positional options, and equally to cause mis-position and even turnovers! In this article I’m going to look through the myriad ways in which having a rabid, blood-crazed player on your team can influence the game of Blood Bowl. Frenzy is one of the most interesting skills in common use in Blood Bowl. ![]() ![]() If you don't move and you're 'teleporting' high above, the game thinks you are very high up when your character is visibly very low, making the game think you have just fallen off a cliff and fell to death. In other words, the diagnosis of APD did not reveal any new information regarding the child beyond the fact that s/he is in great need of a comprehensive language assessment in order to determine which language-based interventions s/he would optimally benefit from. Instead, these studies showed that the children diagnosed with APD exhibited language-based deficits. In other words, none of the reviewed studies had conclusively proven that APD was a distinct clinical disorder. Even more disappointing was that the children in these studies presented with incredibly diverse symptomology. The authors concluded that “The listening difficulties of children with APD may be a consequence of cognitive, language, and attention issues rather than bottom-up auditory processing” (de Wit et al., 2016, p. Unfortunately, they unearthed only one study with strong methodological quality. After a search of 6 databases, they chose 48 studies which satisfied appropriate inclusion criteria. To illustrate, in June 2015, the American Journal of Audiology published an article by David DeBonis entitled: “ It Is Time to Rethink Central Auditory Processing Disorder Protocols for School-Aged Children.” In this article, DeBonis pointed out numerous inconsistencies involved in APD testing and concluded that “routine use of APD test protocols cannot be supported” and that “intervention needs to be contextualized and functional” (DeBonis, 2015, p. More and more studies in the fields of audiology and speech-language pathology began confirming the lack of validity of APD as a standalone (or useful) diagnosis. Now take the octavo booklet – a quire, containing eight folios – and hold the central fold like a book. You could probably take a fourth sheet and fold it one more time again, into a very tiny bundle. Take a third sheet: fold it in half, and then in half again, into octavo shape. Take another sheet: fold it in half again, into quarto shape. It should still already be folded in the middle: try to have the coloured side facing in. It was often used for very large volumes. This is the simplest method of forming a quire, but it relies on the sheets being cut independently to almost exactly the same size, which is hard to achieve. Were these leaves to be written up and bound, the gathering would be called a quire. Depending on the number of sheets of paper you have used, it will have either 8 leaves or 10 leaves. Each folded sheet is a bifolium, that is, two folios (leaves), and the whole pile is called a gathering. With a crease in the middle, you now have a pile of bifolia. Once you have a pile of 4 or 5, fold them all in half, putting the short ends together. Take your sheets of paper and place them one on top of another, making sure that you have blank against blank, colour against colour. This is to replicate the difference in colour and texture between the flesh side of the parchment, and the hair side. You will need several sheets of paper which are either coloured or marked in some way on one side only. ![]() The descriptions below are derived from Christopher de Hamel, Scribes and Illuminators (London: British Museum Press, 1992, pp. There are two ways in which this can be done. Most manuscript books contain several quires bound together. This generally involved forming them into quires or gatherings, rather like booklets. Once in possession of the sheets of parchment or paper, a scribe would make them into usable units for writing. ![]() ![]() ![]() Find Ramiro's Pilot Helmet: On the south side of the main strip, to the south-east (overlapping with a barn find location) is a large hangar with the crate on top of several shipping containers Find the ramp further down the hangar, and motor your way from it and into the crate. To smash it, go to the north opening of the hangar, where there is a small plane you can drive up.
